Next Tuesday, September 27th is our Toonies for Terry event and this year we have added our very own ‘Briga-hero’ for inspiration!

Nicky Martin is a grade 1 student at Brigadoon Public School in Room 9.  On August 30, 2013 Nicky was diagnosed with a rare pediatric brain tumor called ependymoma.  After an 8 hour brain surgery, 6 rounds of chemotherapy and 33 radiation treatments, Nicky remained tumor free until April of this year, when an MRI confirmed that his tumor had returned.  Once again, Nicky braved his way through another long brain surgery and 30 radiation treatments.  Through his entire journey, Nicky has stayed brave and strong (especially with the help of his big brother, Tommy!) and has been an inspiration to his family, his friends and his community.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month and is represented by the colour gold.  Join the Brigadoon community by ‘Going Gold’ for Nicky and wear your yellow or gold in support for our Toonies for Terry event next Tuesday.  Let’s join together to celebrate and acknowledge both local and global heroes like Nicky and Terry who faced adversity with courage and determination.
