Often, I receive comments about how wonderful our students conduct themselves while on field trips or when visitors to the school come by.  It is a great feeling as a principal to hear those positive messages and to extend those comments to the staff and to the children so that they know how their efforts are making a difference in how our community perceives them.

On occasion, however we do have those calls to speak with our students about their behaviour while waiting for the bus.  Recently, we met with the children who ride Route 102 – ‘Blue Dog’ bus.  We reminded them about how to wait appropriately for the bus in the morning and how to be respectful neighbours towards those whose property we stand by and wait for our bus.  We are hopeful that these reminders make a difference.

On other occasions, we also get requests from our neighbours to please ask our parents and caregivers to respect their driveways and property at drop-off and pick-up times.  I often go outdoors in the mornings and after school and remind parents and caregivers to please not drive into the staff/daycare parking lot to do drop-off or pick-ups for students during bus times.

I would kindly ask you please….let’s be ‘good neighbours’.  Let’s show our children and our community together that we can work peacefully together to create a safe and welcoming environment for our children to learn, play and grow.  They are wonderful and eager to learn.  Together….we can do it!
